VRCARE

Our organisation coordinates the VRCARE project as part of Erasmus+, with the goal to modernizing healthcare pedagogy.

The primary goal of VRCARE is to change the traditional pedagogy of social and healthcare education focusing on children and elderly by introducing Virtual Reality as a way of teaching abstract topics such as interaction and ethics. VRCARE also aims to have a positive impact on children and elderly in care homes by introducing VR scenarios portraying daily real-life activities such as going out for walks, dancing and having a cup of coffee at a cafeteria. These scenarios can and will be utilized by the elderly and children, along with their caregivers or students, to engage and interact without needing to leave the nursing home or the childcare centre.

There are 7 participating organizations and centres from 6 countries in this project: Greece, Ireland, Spain, United Kingdom, Cyprus, Denmark.

Objectives:

The main goals of the project are to:

  • Develop digital tools, such as VR scenarios, to provide healthcare students with immersive, hands-on learning experiences.
  • Test the real-life scripts and VR scenarios with educators, students, and representatives from elderly and childcare centers.
  • Train teachers, students, and healthcare staff on how to use these tools.
  • Implement VR technology to modernize education within elderly and childcare sectors.
  • Increase the quality of the education provided.

Target groups:

  • Teachers in elderly and childcare
  • Caregivers in elderly and childcare
  • Students in Social and Healthcare
  • Elderly and children at care centers who will benefit from the project

Outputs:

  • Enhance healthcare education using VR simulation by creating real-life scenarios focused on ethics and patient interaction.
  • Facilitate engagement for the elderly and children in care centers through VR Simulation, offering realistic scenarios for sensory stimulation and cognitive training.
  • Create a Virtual Learning Environment and the AICARE Library featuring 72 real-life scripts and 12 immersive VR scenarios.
  • Integrate Virtual Reality for enhanced education and caregiving.
