DIY Parents - Empowering adults and family figures through collaborative DIY and digital skills
The DIY Parents project aims to empower parents with practical DIY/repair skills and improved digital literacy so they can better support their children’s learning and strengthen parent–child relationships. By equipping adult educators, psychologists, and family-support actors with innovative methodologies and tools, the project will promote intergenerational learning, encourage sustainable and circular economy practices, and raise environmental awareness through collaborative, hands-on DIY experiences shared by parents and children.
Objectives:
The main goals of the project are to:
- Support parents in developing practical DIY and repair skills for everyday family life.
- Improve parents’ digital literacy to guide children in the responsible use of technology.
- Strengthen the capacity of adult educators and family-support professionals to integrate DIY, sustainability, and digital skills into education.
- Develop accessible learning materials and digital resources combining repair techniques and digital tools.
- Encourage intergenerational learning through hands-on DIY activities for parents and children.
- Promote environmental awareness and circular economy practices in family life.
- Foster community engagement through local workshops connecting families, educators, and stakeholders.

Outputs:
They key results of the project are:
- An inclusive framework for integrating DIY skills, digital mediation, and sustainability into adult education for parents.
- A Handbook of DIY Parents’ Education with practical exercises and guidance for educators and families.
- A set of training activities and workshops for adult educators, psychologists, and family-support professionals.
- Local DIY Parents Clubs where families participate in hands-on activities and collaborative learning.
- A methodology for creating self-supporting family learning communities.
- A digital map of community spaces and organisations where families can engage in DIY and learning activities.
- A project website and online resources providing open access to all learning materials and results.
- Multiplier events and dissemination activities to share project outcomes with educators, stakeholders, and the wider public.
